Purpose

The option to extend was within the provisions
of the original tendered contract. It will give officers time to
carry out a robust commissioning process and potentially
consultation with stakeholders as there has been an increased
amount of correspondence from councillors and residents over the
impact of herbicide use in the public realm.

The Council has a requirement under the agency agreement with
Hertfordshire Highways that involves herbicide treatment; if the
Council had no provision to undertake this work then it would be in
breach of the agreement.

Decision

To extend the Council’s contract for
provision of Herbicide Control Service for Hertfordshire Highways
and neighbourhood shopping areas plus Housing and Garages. to,
Charlton Environmental for one year.

Alternative options considered

Option 1 - Seek approval and let a new
contract
Option 2 - Employ an officer or officers and frontline staff with
the necessary experience and equipment to undertake the work done
under the current contract in-house
Option 3 - Extend the existing contract for two years
