Decision

RESOLVED to:

a)    approve an Executive Director structure centred around the three areas of focus of People, Place and Corporate Services. These reflect the Council’s three fundamental responsibilities: improving residents’ lives, shaping thriving communities and ensuring that the organisation is well run. The performance, transformation and governance of each area would be overseen by either the Chief Executive, Deputy Chief Executive or Assistant Chief Executive acting in an Executive Director capacity;

b)    approve the establishment of permanent Deputy Chief Executive and Assistant Chief Executive responsibilities, with each remit attached to an Executive Director role rather than to a fixed portfolio, enabling responsibilities to be assigned to the most appropriate person as organisational requirements change; and

c)     approve retention of the existing grading structure pending potential national changes to grading arrangements and any future implications arising from Devolution, or Local Government Reorganisation (LGR), with Executive Directors appointed at grade L1 and a special allowance applied for the Deputy Chief Executive and Assistant Chief Executive responsibilities aligned to cover requirements for time off expected due to annual leave entitlements.
