About
The Licensing Committee is responsible for the council's regulatory functions related to licensing and registration. This includes overseeing licensing and registration under the Licensing Act 2003, the Gambling Act 2005, and taxi licensing. It also covers regulations for health and safety in non-council workplaces, food premises, scrap metal dealing, and other specified local choice functions.
The committee may decide to prosecute for offences within its remit. Unless authority has been delegated elsewhere, it hears licensing and registration appeals that the council is legally required to determine, but it does not act as a general appeals body for all council decisions.
