The East Sussex (A26 Cuilfail Tunnel / Southerham Road, Lewes)(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2023

Purpose

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out
works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections
14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as
amended, which will temporarily close the following length of
road;

Decision

Temporary Road Closure
Cuilfail Tunnel / Southerham Road - from the A26 Cuilfail Tunnel
roundabout to the junction with U5143 South Street

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access
for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with
an alternative route for through traffic northbound via A27
Southerham roundabout – A27 Lewes bypass to Ashcombe
roundabout – A275 Brighton Road – A277 Lewes High
Street – A2029 Market Street – A2029 North Street
– A2029 Little East Street and A26 Phoenix Causeway &
southbound via Cuilfail Tunnel – A26 Phoenix Causeway –
U5140 - Malling Street – U5143 South Street.

The Order commences 23 June 2023 and lasts for a period of 18
months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier.
However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken as detailed
below, depending upon the weather conditions;

On 23 & 24 June 2023
On 8 & 9 September 2023
On 8 & 9 December 2023
On 8 & 9 March 2024
