Purpose

This report presents
an application for funding under the Council’s Community Funding
Programme.

An application has been received from 1st Locks
Heath Scouts for £3,377 from the Community Fund towards the replacement of the
electric heating system within their Scout Hut with more efficient infrared
heating.

1st Locks Heath Scouts
own the Scout Hut, which was built 25 years ago, and therefore requires some
updates to make it safer, more accessible and more energy efficient. They would
like to replace their current electric heater system with infrared technology.
Infrared heating directly transfers heat from a heater to the object without
heating the air in between. This will be more energy efficient, reducing
operating costs and will also be safer than their current hot to touch storage
heaters, enabling them to open a Squirrels group for the 4-6yr olds.

1st Locks Heath Scouts currently have around 120
youth members over 2 Beaver colonies, 2 Cub packs and 1 Scout group. Once there
is a safer heating system in place, the addition of a Squirrel drey will increase their member numbers by 10%.

The total cost for replacing the heating system is £5,377. 1st Locks
Heath Scouts are looking for £3,377 from the Community fund, with the remainder
being funded by savings.

As of 31st December 2023, 1st Locks
Heath Scouts held £15,067.49 in their accounts. In the accounting year Jan-Dec
2023 there was an income of £9,433.45 and expenditure of £19,173.73.

Ward Councillor, Councillor Murphy
supports 1st Locks Heath Scouts’ application. No response has
been received by Councillor Englefield at the time of this report.
