Decision

To authorise the release of up to £30,000 of Pride in Place programme funding to Wisbech Town Council, for the purpose of:

·         The appointment of specialist architects, designers and consultants to ascertain the current structural safety of the Corn Exchange in Wisbech

·         For the development of costed outline plans to secure the property

Decision:

To authorise the release of £30,000 of Pride in Place funding to Wisbech Town Council to appoint professional services to provide outline costs relating to the “making good” of the corn exchange.

Reasons for the decision

To authorise the decision taken by the Town Board on how capacity funding should be spent.

The Corn Exchange in Wisbech remains the number one capital investment priority for the Town Board. During discussions to purchase the property it has been identified that a level of due diligence is required before a project can be tabled. This funding will allow further insight into the tangible costs of bring the building back into use before a decision can be taken regarding purchase.

The Pride in Place Town Board has formally considered and approved this funding and is making the recommendation to Fenland District Council. 

Fenland District Council is acting solely in its role as Accountable Body in releasing the agreed funding.

In its role as Accountable Body, FDC will be releasing Pride in Place funds allocated to the Town Board.

Alternative options considered

Do nothing – rejected as it would not meet CLG expectations, and would pose a high risk to the Town Board if purchase were made with no survey.
