Purpose
Charivari Day 2023
The grant will be spent on the
visiting musicians that
will play in the Charivari Day
carnival parade in Folkestone on 15th
July 2023.
Decision
To provide
funding of £200.00 to the above project.
Reason for decision:
This event is now 27 years old and has continued to
attract participation from both schools and members of the public
since 1997. It is a significant community event for Folkestone and
brings together participants and spectators from many backgrounds
and walks of life. The route from the Fishmarket to The Leas
Bandstand is lined with thousands of spectators who come along to
enjoy this free event and to enjoy seeng the colourful costumes and
enjoying the music in the parade.
The event takes several months of planning and
costume making, which also involves road
closures, and event logistics on the day. Schools
from across the district, including Bodsham, Hythe and Romney Marsh
are joining in this year.
