Appeals and Retirements Committee

The Appeals and Retirements Committee handles non-executive council functions related to pension issues and discretionary payments for dismissals. It determines appeals from Chief Officers and employees regarding disciplinary decisions, including dismissals. The committee also considers pension act reviews involving discretion and authorises early retirement pension releases, excluding ill-health cases, subject to council policy and costed reports. It decides on and authorises discretionary payments for redundancy or efficiency dismissals, also subject to policy and costed reports. Finally, it addresses matters concerning the Local Government Pension Scheme, sick pay, and extensions to the sick pay scheme in individual cases.
