To appoint Facultatieve Technologies to complete the repairs to Cremator 3 at a cost of £85,323.00

Reasons for the decision

Cremator 3 is not available to use and therefore Cremators 1 & 2 are being used to cover. All Cremators are over 30 years old and at high risk of failure. If the cremators fail there is a financial risk as cremations can not take place and a reputational risk due to the sensitivities of this service.

Alternative options considered

To continue to operate with 2 cremators. The risk is considered too high as all cremators are over 30 years old and therefore at high risk of failure relying on the 2 cremators has put extra pressure on them putting them at higher risk of failure. The throughput at the crematorium requires 3 cremators. If the cremators are not operational there is financial and reputational risk to this Council. This risk will be mitigated in the future with 3 new cremators being installed within the next 18 months.
