New contract based on the Crown Commercial
Services (CCS) framework, to continue to receive a DNS solution for
the Council's Public Sector Network (PSN) connectivity. This will
enable the Council to continue to interact with DWP through the
Public Sector Network.

Reasons for the decision

The Council's existing agreement expires in
January 2025. DWP continues to require use of the Public Sector
Network (PSN) for connectivity to DWP information. DNS is a core
network service for use of the network.

Alternative options considered

CCS tender the DNS service, which is currently
awarded to Nominet. Use of this official DNS service is required to
ensure connectivity issues are not incurred by simple network
changes. The option to manually maintain DNS within the Council was
rejected on the basis that unplanned outages would likely be
experienced as the Council would have no awareness of DWP/PSN
network changes.
