Full council record

The Leader made the following
announcements:
Riverside mural in Guildford
town centre
We’re delighted to
announce that a new mural underneath Walnut Bridge is now complete.
It was commissioned by the council as part of our Street Art
Project, which aims to rejuvenate unloved areas of the town centre,
making them cleaner, safer and more enjoyable for all. The
artist’s design was inspired by Guildford and the surrounding
area. Designed and painted by professional street artists, it spans
three walls and provides a striking vista for anyone passing
through.
I highly recommend you head
down to Walnut Bridge and take a look at this fantastic piece of
street art.
Community Governance Review for
Guildford Town
A Community Governance Review
has begun for the ten wards in the unparished urban area of
Guildford. Residents and stakeholders are being consulted on three
options or they can put forward an alternative proposal.
Every household in the affected
wards will shortly receive a letter with the terms of reference and
information on how they can have their say via the online
consultation, by email, or letter.
You can find out more about the review on our website by searching
for ‘CGR Guildford’.
Secret Shopper survey on taxi
standards?
I’m pleased to report
that a recent ‘secret shopper’ survey exercise has
found that taxi and private hire standards across Guildford are
delivering a high level of service.
The exercise was commissioned
by our licensing team and carried out by an external contractor.
They evaluated the standard of service available to residents and
visitors to the borough.
You can find
out more about this survey exercise in the newsroom on our
website.
VJ Day 80 on 15 August
2025
This Friday we’ll come
together as a nation to commemorate the Second World War
generation, paying tribute to the British and Commonwealth veterans
who served in Asia and the Pacific as well as those who made the
ultimate sacrifice for peace.
Guildford will be flying the VJ
80 flag at the Guildhall, Millmead, Stoke Park Nurseries and
Guildford Castle as a mark of respect for all sides involved in
this conflict and at midday the Armed Forces Champion for
Guildford, Cllr Stephen Hives, will also lay flowers at the WWI and
WWII memorial at the castle in remembrance. This is the time of the
national two-minute silence.
