Chester Bridge/Ash Road Bridge –
easement being granted by Guildford Borough Council
(‘GBC’) to Surrey County Council (‘SCC’) in
order to give SCC rights to access the road bridge for maintenance
purposes.

Reasons for the decision

This easement is being granted pursuant to a
Section 38 agreement relating to Chester Bridge/Ash Road Bridge
which was entered into by GBC with SCC and landowners on 22 June
2023 (as varied pursuant to a deed of variation to be entered into
prior to this transfer).
That Section 38 agreement (as varied) requires GBC to grant SCC
this easement in relation to the area of land under the road bridge
to the north of the railway line which is being retained by GBC.
This easement will give SCC and its successors the right to pass
over and along that land for all purposes connected with the
management and maintenance of Chester Bridge/Ash Road Bridge.
