Riverside SANG Bridge replacement
February 25, 2026 Parks and Countryside Development Lead (Other) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Content
To issue a contract to Morton Pattison Ltd to
install a new vehicle bridge to access Riverside Nature Reserve
SANG
Reasons for the decision
To replace existing access bridge that needs
replacing due to rotting timber and consequently insufficient load
bearing capacity for the vehicles that need to use it.
Suitable bridge access is required for operational site management,
including planned boardwalk replacement works, and fire service
access to wildfire risk area.
The bridge is also part of the approved SANG (Suitable Alternative
Natural Green Space) circular walk and national cycle
network.
Alternative options considered
To replace the bridge with a pedestrian access
only bridge. This would, however, prevent adequate operational and
fire service access to the site. Resulting in additional site
management cost from arranging temporary access and use of
alternative management methods.
