Procurement of infrastructure storage hard drives

Content
Procurement of three hard drives to replace
failed and failing disks in the Council’s current storage
area network (SAN).
Reasons for the decision
Guildford's internally hosted servers use a
storage area network (SAN) which has one failed hard drive, and two
with warnings currently. To ensure the resilience of data stored on
this SAN these drives need to be replaced.
Alternative options considered
Quotes were sought from three suppliers that
the Council has purchased from previously. The suppliers came back
with a range of options that were considered against the
specification provided to them. Only one supplier (Advania UK (CCS)
Ltd) was confident in the compatibility offered by their hard
drives. Given SAN-specific firmware needs to be in-place on the
drives to ensure compatibility, there was a high risk of
in-compatibility where suppliers were not familiar with this. It
was therefore decided to award this purchase to Advania UK (CCS)
Ltd.
