To award contract and purchase a one
year’ subscription with FiveDinners.com, a platform that aims
to tackle weight management, food poverty, preventing food waste
and education of food and cooking within the community.
Reasons for the decision
From market research, whilst other providers
such as Good Food Loop and Healthy Living Platform offer similar
services, these primarily focus on the reduction of food waste and
setting up initiatives (e.g. community pantries) within the
borough. The Community Wellbeing Team are working across Guildford
and Waverley to address the following areas across both boroughs
and have identified that the Five Dinners model is more aligned
with the strategic priorities of creating a more sustainable and
inclusive borough:
•Reduce food waste
•Improve overall health
•Reduce household expenditure on food and help reduce food
poverty
•Reduce pressure on foodbanks
The first year’s subscription will cost £11,000 and we
intend to fund this through the Winter Warmth Grant spend to
support the activities of the Community Meals service.
Alternative options considered
Alternative options included the use of
another supplier that did not align with our aims as well, or not
offering this service at all. We do not feel these are suitable
options based upon the social value it will bring to the
community.
We feel this subscription will demonstrate value for money through
the sustainability of the project – it is predicted that the
outcomes residents will experience whilst using this service will
be far reaching beyond the life expectancy of the project, offering
us the longevity in support we aim to provide to disadvantaged and
vulnerable groups within the community.
