Decision

Decision:

  1. To develop the strategic direction within the report at Appendix 1 into a fuller strategy for the Heritage Service, including its Tourist Information Centre;
  2. To implement the workstreams proposed at section 5 of the report at Appendix 1; and
  3. To submit to the O&S Committee an update on the progress of implementation, and any additional improvements to the Heritage Service, no later than six months from the date of approval of the O&S Committee’s recommendations.

Reason(s):

  1. To provide a strategic direction for the Heritage Service and its Tourist Information Centre and articulate a vision for their future.
  2. To improve the Council’s approach to its Heritage Service and Tourist Information Centre and ensure that the Executive is provided with an associated plan identifying aims, objectives, and key workstreams.

Other options considered and rejected by the Executive:

Option 1: note or reject the O&S report and take no action. This is the ‘do nothing’ or choosing inaction option. This option is not recommended as the O&S report provides a transparent, cross-party, councillor-led evaluation with clear, evidence-based recommendations.

Option 3: part-implement the recommendations of the O&S report and provide a position statement to the O&S Committee in no more than six months’ time.

Details of any conflict of interest declared by the Leader or lead councillors and any dispensation granted:

None.
