Decision

Contract award to SCBS to complete the remedial works to the freezer room floor prior to the installation of the walk-in freezer, to support the operation of the Community Meals service. This is funded via the Winter Warmth Grant.
The minor works have been estimated at £15,877.62 + VAT.

Reasons for the decision

We were unable to source a three quotations for this project - SCBS were the only supplier that agreed to quote for the works. As the Community Meals service is expanding, we require an area that increases the capacity for storage onsite, rather than the standalone freezers that currently reside there. Therefore, a walk-in freezer is due to be installed, and to ensure a level threshold, the freezer room floor will be excavated. This will prevent musculoskeletal issues from pushing heavy trolley up ramps and unnecessary lifting.

Alternative options considered

It was considered to not excavate the floor and have a ramp instead, however, the Community Meals service use heavy commercial trolleys several times a day and this was assessed as a high risk activity for staff.
