Decision

The testing, installation, maintenance and removal of Christmas Lights in the town centre has previously been organised via staff at the GBC Depot. However, due to changes to staffing at the Depot and the current complex job of moving to the new Depot, this contract has been removed from their responsibilities and the contract for 2026 has been procured by the Regeneration and Economic Development team. The Council has put the Christmas Lights installation contract out to tender to three electrical contractors. Procurement went ahead through June and July, with the appointment of a contractor made at the end of July.

Reasons for the decision

To test the market through the appropriate procurement process to enable the Council to appoint the contractor offering the best value for money, quality and safety.
