The relocation of the GBC Depot is required to
release land for the development of the Weyside Urban Village
housing project. Wates were originally appointed to deliver the GBC
Depot project, but their pricing was significantly above the
project allowances. This was due to the risks associated with the
ground remediation works, MEP services, and the Multi Storey Car
Park. As a result, GBC appointed McLaren as the alternative
preferred Main Contractor to complete the design of the new GBC
Depot and MSCP, the Enabling/Remediation Works and Main Works
packages. The Enabling Works Contract will be priced separately
from the Main Works Contract to allow for an earlier commencement
of the Ground Remediation Works. GBC has also agreed an alternative
Contracting Strategy to mitigate risk on programme and HIF
expenditure.
The PCSA between GBC and McLaren was entered into 30 November 2023.
GBC is now looking to enter into the Enabling Works Contract whilst
progressing the PCSA.
