Following market engagement via the Procure
Partnership Framework, Speller Metcalfe be appointed as principle
contractor to deliver phase 1 of the Merton Flood alleviation
scheme, to the contract value of £1.2 million pounds.

The redevelopment of Merton Meadows area of the city is a major
part of the council intervention to deliver affordable and key
worker homes. The area is currently categorised as flood zone,
previous work and discussions with the Environment Agency (EA) have
indicated that they would support redevelopment subject to
appropriate flood alleviation works.

The council have previously secured £2milion of Brownfield
Land Release funding from central government to deliver enabling
flood alleviation works to enable these sites to be developed. This
appointment relates to the delivery of phase one of the Merton
flood alleviation scheme and will enable the sites to come forward
for development as per the grant funding proposal and
approval.
