RESOLVED that Cabinet approved the allocation of £50,000 from the Hertsmere Creative Fund to Elstree Screen Arts (ESA) Academy to support the delivery of a new UK Centre for Craft Excellence in partnership with Sky Studios Elstree and Danes Educational Trust. 

Reasons for decision

The recommendation has been brought forward to support the delivery of a creative industries skills project within the borough’s established film and television cluster, which meets a number of the council’s objectives and has support from a range of key local partners.

The council’s contribution will secure significant match funding for the project, maximising value for money from the Council’s investment.

It will also improve local access to vocational training employment pathways and inclusive educational provision.

Alternative Options Considered

The Council could have agreed not to support the project which would likely result in the loss of match funding and put the project at risk of not proceeding.
