To adopt the Declaration for River Recovery which forms the
appendix to this report

 
REASON
 
Adoption of the Declaration gives effect to,
and accords, with the spirit of the motion.
 
ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS CONSIDERED BUT REJECTED AS
IDENTIFIED IN THE REPORT
 
The alternative course of action that was
considered was to develop a Rivers Charter. However, these are
generally produced and owned by a community and can also involve
extensive community engagement. Given the extensive range of
projects that are already taking place related to the Rivers Arun,
Rother, and Adur, and with more coming forward, developing a Rivers
Charter was rejected in favour of a Declaration for River Recovery.
This allows resources to be focused on delivering projects.
