To increase the annual subscription fee for
the Council’s Garden waste collection service by £5
from £59 to £64 per bin.

Reasons for the decision

Local authorities are required to provide a
garden waste collection to residents who request it and are
permitted to charge for doing so. The Council proposes to increase
the annual subscription fee for its garden waste collection service
by £5 per bin in order
to maintain a cost-efficient
service.

Alternative options considered

To continue at the current price, raise the
price by £2 per bin or by £5.50 per bin. These options
were rejected because We wanted to ensure that the rise is kept as
low as possible so rejected the £5.50 but needed this to be
higher than the £2 per bin because the increase is necessary
to ensure the continued delivery of this high-quality service
without compromising our standards. Without this increase
we’re at risk of underfunding this service given inflation,
higher energy prices and staffing costs so this reflects the actual
cost pressures we face. This will keep the service financially
sustainable and remains proportionate in comparison to other local
authority prices.
