Changes to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Textiles and Coffee Pods Bookable Collection Service
July 14, 2026 Leader of the Council (Cabinet member) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Decision
- To discontinue the current directly provided service for the collection of WEEE (small electricals), textiles and coffee pods, and to reassign the operative and the van.
- To commence an alternative directly provided service for the collection of broken WEEE.
- To work with Anglo Doorstep Collections to provide for the collection of working WEEE, textiles and other additional products.
- To promote alternative mechanisms for the recycling of coffee pods.
Reasons for the decision
Suitable alternatives to recycle working WEEE, textiles and coffee pods are available, the change would save costs, create space at the Hop Oast Depot and eliminate risks around informal agreements and market volatility.
Alternative options considered
Continuing to provide all the services ourselves has been considered but rejected on the basis that it does not represent the best use of council funds and resources.
Not commencing an alternative service for the collection of broken WEEE has been considered but rejected on the basis that residents would be without a collection service for broken WEEE as Anglo Doorstop Collections does not collect such items.
