RESOLVED

i)
To approve the purchase of two refuse collection vehicles (RCVs);
and

ii)
To approve the award of the contract (for the purchase of the two
RCVs) on acceptable market terms to the winning bidder.

REASON

Safety Concerns: The safety of our staff is
paramount, and the recent incident serves as a stark reminder of
the potential risks associated with operating aging vehicles. By
replacing the damaged vehicle and the one currently in use, we
mitigate the risk of similar accidents occurring in the future.

Operational Efficiency: An unreliable fleet
can disrupt our refuse collection schedules and lead to delays in
service provision. By investing in new vehicles, we ensure the
continuity of our operations and maintain a high level of service
quality for our customers.

Cost-effectiveness: While purchasing new
vehicles incurs an initial investment, it ultimately proves
cost-effective in the long run by reducing maintenance costs and
minimising downtime associated with repairs. Background Papers
