Purpose

The report deals with the
opportunity to establish a Hackney Carriage stand at The
Waterfront, Ipswich.
 
The Portfolio Holder is
requested to approve the establishment of this Hackney Carriage
stand and approve the public consultation.
 

Decision

1)       To approve the siting of a
Hackney Carriage stand as shown at Appendix A to the attached
report.

2)       To authorise the Head of
Public Protection to give notice to the Chief Officer of Police for
Suffolk of the Council’s intention to establish a 24/7
Hackney Carriage stand on the waterfront and advertise in a local
paper a notice of intention in accordance with Section 63(1) of the
Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976.

3)       Subject to no objections
being received or any objections being withdrawn, to agree to the
establishment of a 24/7 hackney carriage stand on the Waterfront
and to authorise the Head of Public
Protection, in consultation with the Portfolio Holder for Community
and Sport and the Head of Legal Services, to take all necessary
steps to establish the rank shown in Appendix A to the attached
report including the costs for a Traffic Regulation
Order.

4)       In the event of any
objections being duly made and not withdrawn, where they are
considered substantial by the Portfolio Holder for Community and
Sport, that a further report be brought to Executive to enable
consideration of the objections.
 
Reason: To provide safe Hackney
Carriage stands and comply with statutory requirements associated
with the establishment of Hackney Carriage stands.
