That, further to Full Council having
considered the Cabinet report, Cabinet agrees to:
1.
Submit, with the agreement of Southampton, Portsmouth and Hampshire
and/or Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, a joint expression of
interest to be included in the priority programme for
devolution,
2.
Seek to defend and help the government to understand the particular
geography and historic status of the Isle of Wight’s
self-governing local authorities since 1890, currently through the
Isle of Wight unitary council, as being an exception in their plans
for local government reorganisation,
3.
In recognition of 1 (above) and to demonstrate our commitment to
seek devolution in accordance with the priority programme, seek a
12-month postponement of the Isle of Wight elections due to take
place in May 2025, recognising that not doing so could prevent
inclusion in the priority programme for devolution,
4.
In recognition of 3 (above) include the Town, Parish and Community
Council elections also due to take place in May 2025 in the request
for postponement.
