Purpose
To agree the draft plan for
Local Government Reorganisation for submission to
government.
Content
To review and endorse the
interim proposal as set out in Appendix 1 of this report.
Agree that the interim
submission should be submitted to Government by the deadline of 21
March 2025.
To note that through the
submission that the Government is being asked for an early
indication in response to the proposal that the Isle of Wight
Council be treated as an exception and retain its current unitary
authority status without change.
The Chief Executive, in consultation with the
Leader of the Council, be delegated the responsibility to continue
to work collaboratively with the authorities within the Hampshire
and the Solent area to negotiate the final business case for local
government reorganisation, prior to approval by Council and
submission to Government later in 2025 and to make representations
to the minster as appropriate. This may
include commissioning or cost-sharing with other authorities as
required.
