Purpose

The establishment of this post ensured that
the decision of Full Council on 19 January 2022 to create and
recruit an Independent Chair (Governance and Audit Committee), can
be progressed. (See the minutes for that meeting which can be
viewed
here). The proposal to extend this appointment for a further
three years seeks to continue these arrangements.
 

Decision

That the three-year fixed term appointment of
an Independent Chair (Governance and Audit Committee) (decision EDR
04 2022), be extended for a further three years.
 

Alternative options considered

To return to the previous Elected Member Chair
model – this was rejected as the engagement and consideration
by the Governance and Audit Committee and Council supported the
independent model. The establishment and recruitment of an
Independent Chair reflects national best practice and has been
successfully implemented in Knowsley.
