Purpose

The
substantive Head of Education is currently acting up into the role
of Assistant Executive Director (Education and Inclusion) until 31
December 2023, pending a permanent recruitment
exercise.  The Head of Education post is
a key leadership role within the Children’s Services
Department and it is essential that the
duties and responsibilities are covered.  The purpose of this decision is therefore
arrange for the Education Improvement
Officer to act up into the post of Head of Education at Grade PMG 5
with effect from 4 September 2023 until 31 December
2023.  The cost of filling the Head of
Education post for this period is £34,703 and can be fully
funded from the budget for the related post.
 

Decision

The
Chief Executive hereby agrees to the temporary acting up of the
Education Improvement Officer to cover the post of Head of
Education at Grade PMG 5, whilst the substantive postholder is
acting up to the position of Assistant Executive Director
(Education and Inclusion).  The
acting-up arrangement will be effective from 4 September 2023 until
31 December 2023.
 

Alternative options considered

The
option of leaving the post vacant during this period was rejected
in view of the strategic priorities for across the Children’s
Services Department.
