Purpose

The purpose of this report is to seek approval, to undertake shop front and internal works at Shop Unit 1 (SU1), Prescot Shopping Centre.  The unit has been vacant for a long period of time and requires refurbishment works to bring it back to a lettable standard. Undertaking these works will ensure the property is suitable for occupation and will help facilitate the relocation of existing tenants.

Decision

The Director (Development and Infrastructure) is recommended to:

(i)             Approve the delivery of shop front and internal works at Prescot Shopping Centre.

(ii)            Approve the inclusion of the works in the 2026/27 Major Development Capital Programme.

Alternative options considered

Do Nothing: This option was considered and rejected as the unit would remain long-term vacant and unsuitable for occupation. This would prevent the relocation of a tenant and fail to make effective use of an existing asset.
