Full council record

Purpose

The purpose of this report is to seek approval to priortise a single storey bedroom and bathroom extension in a property at Huyton L36 within the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) waiting list.

The reason for the decision is that the works are required urgently to meet the needs of a service user with Motor Neurons Disease (MND), which is a rapidly progressing condition. There are currently 31 people with a disability waiting for an extension to their home and the waiting time is typically three years. The works proposed in this report are needed now so that the service user can receive the adaptations whilst they are able to benefit from it.

Decision

(i)             That, a single storey bedroom and bathroom extension in a property in Huyton, L36 is prioritised within the Disabled Facilities Grant waiting list.

Alternative options considered

Apply the standard procedure:

This option was considered and rejected because the typical waiting time for an extension, such as the one proposed in this report, is three years. The typical prognosis for a person with MND is one to three years which means that, using the standard procedure, it is likely that by the time their case reaches the top of list they will not be able to benefit from the works.
