Joint Committee for Revenues and Benefits

The Joint Committee for Revenues and Benefits is responsible for the delivery of delegated functions related to council tax, non-domestic rates, and benefits administration for Lancaster City Council and Preston City Council. It manages the maintenance of databases, billing, collection, and recovery of revenues, as well as the assessment and payment of benefits. The committee also handles fraud and error investigations, recovery of overpayments, and the approval of discretionary housing payments and rate reliefs. While it administers these functions within agreed budgets and standards, key policy decisions and the setting of council tax remain with the individual councils.
