The Licensing Committee is responsible for exercising a wide range of licensing and regulatory functions for Lancaster. It grants permissions, issues permits, makes variations to licences, and authorises enforcement actions across numerous areas.
This includes licences for Hackney Carriages, private hire vehicles, caravan sites, sex shops, tattooing, pleasure boats, markets, street trading, and food businesses. The committee also handles functions related to scrap metal dealers, zoos, animal welfare, street collections, noise control, second-hand goods dealers, employment of children, and alcohol and gambling licences. It can set fees, impose conditions on licences, and develop licensing policies for council consideration.
