About
The Standards Committee is responsible for promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct among councillors and co-opted members in Lancaster, as required by the Localism Act 2011. It advises the Council on its Code of Conduct, approves arrangements for handling alleged breaches, and determines whether councillors have failed to comply.
Where a breach is found, the committee decides on appropriate action or sanctions. It also assists with appointing Independent Persons, determines dispensation requests, and responds to national consultations on standards issues, ensuring all decisions are politically neutral.
