Armed Forces Covenant 2024
May 7, 2024 Cabinet member for innovation, delivery and people (Cabinet member) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
To note the change to the
current Armed Forces Covenant arrangements and to agree to sign the
updated Armed Forces Covenant.
Content
(1) That the pledges outlined
by the ‘Lewes District Council Armed Forces Covenant’
document are agreed.
(2) That the Council’s
Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Stewart-Roberts, attends the formal
signing ceremony (potentially planned for Summer 2024) and signs
the Covenant on behalf of Lewes District Council.
Reasons for the decision
The Council are committed to
the Armed Forces Community that live and work in Lewes
District.
To demonstrate this ongoing
commitment, the Council work with our partners on the Civil
Military Partnership Board and are led in this work by Cllr Daniel
Stewart-Roberts, Armed Forces Champion for Lewes District Council.
The Council signed a Community Covenant along with District,
Borough and County partners and other local organisations in May
2013, however as Community Covenants are no longer valid, it is
time for the Council to reconfirm our commitment to go further for
(ex)service members and their families, via a bespoke
Covenant.
Alternative options considered
To not sign a bespoke
Covenant.
