Purpose

To seek approval of the Leader
of the Council for the Council to apply for living wage
accreditation and become a Real Living Wage employer.

Content

To delegate authority to the
Director of Finance and Performance to apply for Eastbourne Borough
Council to become a Living Wage employer and commit to paying Real
Living Wage to all staff.

Reasons for the decision

This would enable the Council
to play more of an advocacy role in encouraging other local
employers to pay the Real Living Wage to staff, raising standards
of living for people working in the region.

Alternative options considered

Not applying for the living
wage would save money but not contribute to raising standards of
living of staff and would not enable the Council to play an
advocacy role for Real Living Wage in the town.
