Purpose

Variation requirement on the Cabinet approval
to relating to approval to procure and enter into contracts with
various hotels pertaining to accommodation for the World Boxing
Championships.

Decision

For the reasons set out in this report, the
Corporate Director has decided to:
 
1)   
Increase the exemption from Contract Standing Orders by
£285,000 (excluding VAT), for hotel accommodation and
services in relation to the event, for an estimated total value as
detailed in paragraph 6.4 which will be reimbursed in full;
and
 
2)   
Subject to approval of the above, award contracts for the
additional hotel accommodation and services associated with the
additional hotels detailed in paragraph 6.4.

Alternative options considered

1.1         
Not contract the additional hotels – the event is
already happening and the potential of the additional boxers and
officials has presented itself, to ignore this requirement would be
detrimental to the event delivery and to the Council’s
reputation for delivering world class events. The structures and
delivery mechanisms are already in place for the existing contracts
and to put in a different delivery mechanisms would be detrimental
to the management of the process.
