The Kent and Medway Police and Crime Panel is a joint committee of local councils responsible for scrutinising the work of the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC). While it cannot directly control the PCC, the panel can request the PCC attend public meetings and provide information. It reviews and comments on the draft Police and Crime Plan and expenditure proposals. The panel has the power to veto the PCC's proposed precept (council tax increase for policing) and the decision to appoint a Chief Constable. It also reviews, but cannot veto, the appointment of other staff within the PCC's office.
