Purpose

The purpose of the report was to update the position on the two proposed roundabout signalisation schemes on the B1365/Stainton Way and B1365/Viewley Hill Avenue/Newham Way and to progress the sharing of the plans for public consultation purposes.

Decision

ORDERED that the Executive Member for Environment and Sustainability approved proceeding to public consultation on the two roundabout junction signalisation proposals on the B1365/Stainton Way and B1365/Viewley Hill Avenue/Newham Way. 

Reasons for the decision

REASONS 

The proposals had been identified as being required to mitigate the impact of housing and economic growth, by ensuring safe and expeditious movements of people on the network.

Consultation was an important aspect of project delivery to ensure that as many people as possible were aware of the proposals and have an opportunity to feedback.

Alternative options considered

OPTIONS

Not progressing to public consultation. This would not be appropriate, as the schemes have been devised to account for the increase in highway demand associated with housing and economic growth ambitions. Without the schemes, the Council risks facilitating congestion and journey time delays, and cannot make vital safety improvements.
