About

The General Purposes and Licensing Committee is a regulatory body responsible for a range of statutory duties and policy reviews. It determines matters imposed by legislation, regulations, and orders, including all activities under the Licensing Act 2003 and Gambling Act 2005. The committee also reviews the Council's Statement of Licensing Policy and advises on electoral registration, elections, Standing Orders, and the Constitution.

This committee appoints sub-committees to hold hearings and make decisions on taxi and liquor licensing applications, particularly when objections are received or applications are refused by an officer. It also has the power to vary maximum hackney carriage fares within the district.
