Decision requested by decision maker:
- To proceed with a license for the Ilfracombe Round Table Soap Box
Derby Event on North Devon Council land,
- To provide a £500 discount to the Round Table, resulting in
a total charge of £892 for the use of Larkstone and Marine
Drive car parks on the day (the loss of income to the Council is
calculated at £1,392 less a £500 discount awarded due
to the event being for charity).

Reasons for the decision

North Devon Council have received an event
license from Ilfracombe Round table to hold a soap box derby partly
on land owned by the Council, at Larkstone lane Ilfracombe,
including Waterloo path, Marine drive car park and Larkstone car
park.
This is the first such event that would be held in Ilfracombe and
would be held on the 10th August 2025.
The land is requested from 6am to 10pm on the 10th August.
A similar event has been held elsewhere (including Bideford) and
involves a time trial race between teams of participants rolling
home-made soap boxes down Marine Drive along a pre-agreed course of
bends, a chicane and a mini jump.
The Round table anticipate between 3000 – 5000 participants
attending the event.
