To establish a Sustainability Officer position
within the Programme Management Team and recruit to the
post.

Reasons for the decision

In the Address of Gratitude to Members by the
Newly Elected Leader of the Council at the Annual Council held on
Monday 22nd May 2023 it was announced that the new Administration
would “seek to tackle Climate Change locally” (minute
COU/9/23-24). To address this commitment the Council is
establishing a Sustainability Officer.

Alternative options considered

Establishing a dedicated Sustainability
Officer will ensure that the
Council has in place a core role to co-ordinate its approach to
delivering its Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan. Other
options for the structure have been explored, such as utilising
spare time from existing officers, but these are less effective and
appropriate approaches to ensuring the Council provides the
necessary focus to drive this work.
