Roebeck Bridge Land Dedication
July 24, 2025 Corporate Director of Environment (Officer) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Decision
North Yorkshire Council intends to enter an
agreement with landowner surrounding Roebeck Bridge for the
dedication of approximately 85m2 area of land for highway purposes
pursuant to section 72 of the Highways Act 1980 to enable the
construction of an embankment to replace a collapsed retaining
wall.
Reasons for the decision
A 12m section of masonry retaining wall
approaching the bridge collapsed in May 2024. It is proposed to
construct a small embankment to replace the retained part of the
wall. The wall parapet is to be rebuilt as per the existing.
Dedication of the adjoining land to highway is required to
construct the embankment.
Alternative options considered
Reconstruction of the retaining wall was
considered however an embankment solution was chosen as it would
likely have a reduced whole life cost.
