Agreement for the JCT contract between North
Yorkshire Council and Yorvik Homes Ltd to install a 750mm pipe in
Bellerby Road, Leyburn at a cost of £15,874.37k as part of
the Mount Drive, Leyburn culvert divert under the Upper Dales Flood
Alleviation Scheme.

Reasons for the decision

Yorvik Homes Ltd were installing a pipe into
Bellerby Road from their new housing development. Flood Risk
Management engaged with Yorvik to increase the pipe size which
would enable us to link the Mount Drive culvert divert ensuring the
pipe size was sufficient to hold the capacity of water required to
protect residents from flooding in the future. The overall cost of
the project would have been £200k plus.
By working with Yorvik Homes Ltd:
•The cost is significantly reduced which also can be used to
offset against funding increasing our cost to benefit ratio
•Reduces disturbance to residents by works only having to be
completed once
•Yorvik have experience of the bedrock in Leyburn

Alternative options considered

To not progress with the installation of the
pipe as part of the Yorvik scheme but this was not taken forward
due to time and cost implications.
