Purpose
Consideration of requests for additions,
deletions or other amendments to the winter gritting
routes
Decision
Amendments to the current winter maintenance
service, as detailed in Appendix A of the report, are approved in
line with the Council’s Policy and uniformity of service
across the county. There is one adjustment that will be made for
the 25/26 winter season only: Area 5 Item 3, which relates to
assisting Westmorland and Furness Council due to an ongoing
landslip – any cost of providing this assistance under
Priority 3 treatments / snow conditions and via farming contractors
only will be fully recharged to Westmorland and Furness Council if
any assistance is provided.
Reasons for the decision
The recommendations are put forward in order
for the Authority to appropriately deal with the requests received
for alterations to our gritting routes.
Alternative options considered
There are no alternative options that can be
considered as treating the highway network, as far as is reasonably
practicable, to prevent the formation of hazards created by ice or
snow is a statutory duty of the Local Highway Authority [Highways
Act 1980 S41(1A)].
