Purpose

Following the consultation from Beadalm and
Nawton Parish Councils submission of an Area Application to
designate the combined entirety of both Parishes to become a
neighbourhood area, we are seeking approval for the proposed
neighbourhood area.

Decision

The Executive Member for Open to Business
approved the designation of the Nawton and Beadlam as a
neighbourhood area under Part 2(7) of the Neighbourhood Planning
(General) Regulations 2012 (as amended), to enable the next stages
of the development of a neighbourhood plan to commence.

Reasons for the decision

A valid area application was submitted by
Nawton and Beadlam Parish Councils as a relevant body to designate
their combined area as a neighbourhood area for the purposes of
neighbourhood planning.

Regulation 6 of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations
2012 (as amended) required North Yorkshire Council to publicise the
area application. The area application was publicised on 14
November 2025 until 12 January 2026.

No objections were made to the proposed neighbourhood area.

Regulation 6A of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations
2012 (as amended) requires the local planning authority to
determine the application within 20 weeks of it being publicised,
this date being no later than 3rd April 2026.

This decision therefore accords with the Neighbourhood Planning
(General) Regulations 2012 (as amended) by designating the
neighbourhood area of Beadlam and Nawton.

The following must now as soon as possible be published on the
Council’s website

(a) the name of the neighbourhood area;

(b) a map which identifies the area; and

(c) the name of the relevant body who applied for the
designation.
