Electricity Supply Contract
February 25, 2026 Corporate Director of Resources (Officer) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Decision
A decision has been made to:
Continue with the Electricity supply contract with EDF Energy
Limited via the Crown Commercial Services (CCS) framework for the
supply of electricity for the Council.
The current contract period is up until 31 March 2029.
The decision will ensure the continuity of the contract period
until 31 March 2030.
Please note the decision related to the tariff will take place
later in the year once indicative costs are available for the
different tariffs. This is anticipated to take place September
2026.
Reasons for the decision
To ensure the continuity of supply of
electricity to the council.
Following the successful onboarding of EDF in April 2024 and
demonstration of cost avoidance by moving to the new supply and
access to longer term buying strategies offered by CCS, the
proposal is to continue with EDF.
The current market data indicates prices easing, then stabilising
and gradually rising over the next 30 months.
Due to the nature of the lead time for hedging, prior to
consumption, the commitment to this strategy is required to be made
30 months in advance.
Alternative options considered
The original award to EDF via the CCS
framework was following rigorous market testing.
The decision to continue with this contract followed an internal
review of the efficacy of the contract and third-party validation
of ongoing value for money.
