Approval for the submission of a funding
application to the YNYCA’s Local Authority High Streets Fund
for £250,000 to support delivery of the Whitby Parking
project

Reasons for the decision

To enable North Yorkshire Council to seek
external capital funding to support a priority regeneration project
identified through the Town Investment Plan programme.

Alternative options considered

The option of not applying for external
funding was discounted as this would involve result in no
improvements to the car park, resulting in the continued seasonal
operation of the overflow facility. This approach does not address
the core challenge the project seeks to resolve: the overflow car
park is unusable during periods of heavy or prolonged rainfall,
particularly in the shoulder and off-seasons.
