Gym and Cycle Equipment and Maintenance
September 9, 2026 Executive Member for Culture, Arts & Housing (Cabinet member) Key decision Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
To seek approval for the procurement of gym and cycle equipment and associated maintenance services to support Active North Yorkshire’s leisure and wellbeing provision across 17 hubs. This includes £3m FFE (Fixtures, Fittings and Equipment) investment into new gym equipment as agreed at Cabinet in November 2025 alongside the circa. £36m leisure investment planned at hubs in Selby, Skipton, Whitby and Pickering.
The procurement will cover the supply, delivery, and installation of gym and studio equipment, along with ongoing maintenance and technical support.
Approval is required to proceed with the procurement and implementation of the gym equipment and maintenance solution.
Decision
To approve the procurement of a contract for the provision of gym and studio equipment across Active North Yorkshire hubs.
Reasons for the decision
To strengthen Active North Yorkshire's position as a Health and Wellbeing Service, the service is committed to ensuring that its facilities, equipment and customer offer remain modern, fit for purpose, aligned with industry trends, and capable of meeting the needs of a diverse range of users accessing its services.
Alternative options considered
Options to maintain the existing equipment were considered. However, due to the ageing equipment, increasing service and maintenance costs, and the equipment no longer being fit for purpose or aligned with industry trends, failing to replace it would have a significant negative impact on leisure provision and the service's ability to maintain commercial income.
